Over the last few weeks, there have been many speculations regarding the ‘Varisu’ Telugu release due to the tussle with Telugu Producers Council regarding other language films released on festival day and now it has been reported that the film might not receive many screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Varisu is scheduled to be released in theatres on 12 January 2023 in the week of Pongal. The film is planned to have dubbed versions in Telugu and in Hindi.

The Telugu version’s release was initially at risk of being moved to an earlier date than the Tamil version as the Telugu Film Producers Council urged theatre owners to give first preference to release only direct Telugu films releasing on 12 January 2023 in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the Pongal festival. Despite this, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Association announced that the Telugu version would release as planned after talks with the Telugu Film Producers Council.

It took place at a specially constructed set at a film city in East Coast Road, Chennai, and was completed on 15 April. Initially, 75% of the shoot was planned to take place in Hyderabad but Vijay requested the production to remain in Chennai to benefit the local Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI).

FEFSI is an Indian organization consisting of technicians from the Tamil film industry in Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 23 unions belonging to different trades in the film and television industry are affiliated with the FEFSI which has around 25,000 members. The makers of this film reportedly agreed. Despite this, the Hyderabad schedule began on 3 May and concluded by 23 May 2022.

The Chennai schedule resumed on 3 June 2022 with the recurring portions also being shot at the film city. This includes a song sequence and a few portions. Despite stringent measures taken by the production team, pictures taken from the sets were leaked on the internet and by 15 June the team planned to shift the shooting location to a private spot, resulting in the halt of filming.

By 2023 June,  45% of the filming was over with another scheduled to begin in July 2022. The fourth schedule began on 5 July 2022 in Hyderabad and was completed within three weeks.

The team headed to Visakhapatnam for the fifth schedule in late July. Paidipally planned to shoot the film in live locations in the city, and to avoid fans gathering, the details of the venue were undisclosed, Despite the Telugu Film Producers Guild’s (TFPG) decision to halt shootings of Telugu films from 1 August 2022, Dil Raju, the head of TFPG, assured that the shooting of ‘Varisu Movie’ would continue as it was a Tamil-language film and not a bilingual.

During the production in Hyderabad, several stills from the film were leaked, and fans criticized the carelessness of the production house. In mid-August 2022, a song shoot was held featuring Vijay and Mandanna and is choreographed by Jani Master. The team moved to Hyderabad for filming another song, with the lead pair and choreographer in September 2022.

The final schedule commenced on 25 September 2022 with two fight sequences and two songs left to be shot in this schedule. The filming was completed on 27 October 2022 except for some patchwork sequences and a final song, which was shot from 14 to 19 November 2022 in Bellary. It was followed by the ongoing shooting of the climax sequences in Hyderabad.

During the schedule, a reporter and his team flew a drone camera over the shooting location but was seized by the fans, preventing the reporter to get footage from the sets. Post-production for the film went simultaneously in mid-November, and full-fledged post-production works begin by December 2022. The technical team also traveled to Ladakh to capture tableau sequences.

The film will be distributed by Seven Screen Studio in Tamil Nadu] while Ahimsa Entertainment will be releasing the film in Tamil and Telugu versions in the United Kingdom.

Sri Venkateswara Creations was accused by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) of using elephants in the film, violating the Performing Animal (Registration) Rules 2001 by not seeking permission from the AWBI before filming. The AWBI ordered Sri Venkateswara Creations to submit an explanation to them for their violation within seven days or face legal action.

A bunch of high-quality stills from Tamil superstar Vijay’s upcoming film Varisu was released on Wednesday, signaling the start of the promotions. The pictures are part of a popular Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan’s coverage of the movie, which also includes an interview with director Vamshi Paidipally.

One of the stills shows Vijay walking on a crowded street carrying a camera, suggesting that he could be a tourist. Another still shows Vijay arriving on a train. It wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Vijay plays an NRI in the movie and he is amused by the culture and people of his motherland. There is also a picture of Vijay taking a selfie with Rashmika Mandanna and Khushbu, who have also played pivotal roles in the movie.

The big news for the fans is that the movie ‘Varisu’ is officially set to open in theatres on January 12, 2023. So the fans are excited to watch this movie. I hope that movie-goers will rush to the cinema halls immediately ‘Varisu’ will release and enjoy this movie wholeheartedly.
