Controversies Surrounding Pathaan Song Besharam Rang
The song “Besharam Rang” from the Pathaan movie, which stars Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan (SRK), is at the centre of a storm that is causing political commotion and sparking a wave of responses.
The boycott brigade is getting active, and there are calls to outlaw the movie.
Deepika Padukone’s appearance in the song Besharam Rang wearing a saffron dress in support of anti-BJP demonstrations at JNU is what has caused the majority of the uproar. Right-wing organisations objected to Padukone’s movie Padmavavat for its “distortion of history.”
Dr. Narottam Mishra, the home minister for Madhya Pradesh, is at the forefront of the anti-Pathaan movement. He was incensed by the song’s use of a saffron costume.
He firmly stated that if certain photos weren’t changed, “Pathaan” wouldn’t be released in the state. He stated that he thought actress Deepika Padukone’s appearance “very unpleasant” and that she is a supporter of the “Tukde Tukde” gang.
Mishra tweeted a video of himself speaking to the neighbourhood media. He makes note in the video that the song was recorded with a twisted attitude.
The release of “Pathaan” follows the central investigation agency NCRB’s 20-day detention and subsequent release of SRK’s son Aryan in connection with a suspected drug offence that was later determined to lack adequate evidence.
During the release of his last film, Raees, SRK also encountered opposition from right-wing groups due to his “intolerance” comments, the casting of a Pakistani actor, and several “objectionable” scenes.
On Thursday, Veer Shivaji Group members gathered at a traffic light in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and lit Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan effigies on fire.
Similar demonstrations were seen in Uttar Pradesh, where BJP supporters called for harsh punishment against the film’s producers and asked the state government to outlaw it.
Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, the national president of the All India Hindu Mahasabha, requested on Twitter on Thursday that the censor board take stern action against the film’s producers.
The rumoured release date for Pathaan is January 25, 2023. Siddharth Anand is the director and Yash Raj Films is the producer of the film.
Amitabh Bachchan, in contrast, addressed concerns about civil liberties and freedom of expression at the Kolkata International Film Festival. His comments were viewed as a rare rebuttal to the boycott movement.
In addition to divisive and damaging storylines, SRK also discussed social media’s apparent narrowness at the same occasion.
