Govinda Naam Mera

Vicky Kaushal starrer Govinda Naam Mera just dropped its trailer. Here’s how we feel about it.

Well, the Vicky Katrina wedding is over, but the craze of the man, is that going to be put in the back burner, like ever? Clearly not if the craze over the trailer of the upcoming venture, Govinda Naam Mera, is any proof. If Vicky was not sufficient, the film also stars the absolutely gorgeous Bhumi Pednekar and the stunning Kiara Advani in the lead roles. The film starts streaming on the OTT platform, Disney+ Hotstar from December 16. It has been directed by Shashank Khaitan, who has the likes of Dhadak, Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania, and Badrinath ki Dulhania under his belt, proving his mettle in mass entertainment films. The comedy thriller film is a highly anticipated movie, with a power packed star cast with huge entertainment value. The film was originally set to case Varun Dhawan in the lead role, with the female protagonists staying the same, when the film was named as Mr. Lele instead. However, the Covid 19 pandemic hampered the plans, following which, Kaushal had to substitute Dhawan as the hero of the film.

Govinda Naam Mera Trailer Review

The trailer shows Vicky as a junior background dancer, Govinda Waghmare, as we are introduced to his “hotty wife”, the abusive wife of Kaushal’s character. In the trailer, Pednekar’s character wakes Kaushal’s character with a kick to the belly, introduces him to her boyfriend, and takes continuous jibes at him throughout. The look of Pednekar is much similar to her look in Pati Patni aur Woh. On the other hand, the character of Kiara Advani plays the fellow dancer and clearly the whiff of fresh dancer in Kaushal’s life, with whom he is seen living out all his romantic fantasies, including what seems to be a very promising rain dance.

The trailer takes a dark twist as we see a frustrated Govinda stand up for himself as he points a gun at his wife, and the screen turns dark following a gunshot sound. The story then dives into an apparent investigation, where Govinda is accused of the murder of his wife, and his girlfriend is pulled in as well. But wait, who do we have here? Is that Daya, from CID? And he is talking about, uhh… CID? Why yes, it is. So we are also set for a trip down memory lane as our good ol’ Inspector Daya investigates the murder, and hopefully, rams down a few doors, or is that too much to ask for? Well, that’s only for the final presentation to answer, but let’s get back to the film.

The murder mystery rages on, but is there another twist? Govinda has the answer. Where is the dead body for the murder investigation? Is there something more to this apparent open and shut case from the trailer? That’s only for the film to answer.

Dharma Production

The film shows promise in the melding between the thrill and the comedy, which, though common in the present times, is an easy recipe to ruin. A Dharma Production, the film is also expected to live upto the name of the parent production, while keeping the new age drama value from the new generation stars. Vicky’s cool hip bandana look and sleek moves reminds the viewers of the 2018 Manmarziyaan look as DJ Vicky Sandhu.

Basking still in the glory of the highly appraised Sardar Udham, Kaushal has returned with this new offering to bring to the OTT screens some high voltage drama, comedy, thrill, Vicky’s coolness, Bhumi’s evil avatar, Kiara’s gorgeous wardrobe, and scintillating rain dances. The film is expected to surpass all expectations considering the star cast and the story that it boasts off.

The trailer shows enough of the story to keep the audience hooked and waiting for the story to unfold further. Catchy dialogues, good looks, and the mystery of whodunit and howdunnit expected to bring in the audience, especially as the theatrical release has been scrapped and it can now be watched simply with a subscription of Disney+ Hotstar. It remains to be seen how this film treats Advani, whose immense potential is often wasted in eye candy roles in big budget films. Overall, the film has increased expectations of the Bollywood lovers, as they look for a refreshing blend of some old school mystery and new generation drama.

The film is all set to start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from the 16th of December, a week before Christmas, and it remains to be seen how it complements the festive spirit.
