The Dark web series has shown a massive storm across the OTT channel. The director of the web series Baran bo Odar is now back with the next series called 1899, and so the expectations are high. The web series is now streaming on Netflix. Let us get more details about the web series.
The movie 1899 makes use of cliches such as a spooky background score, an enigmatic color scheme straight out of a Tim Burton film, and moody persons who are quite different from one another. The country’s plurality adds a sense of globalization that results in a change of language in every other scene. It might be confusing at first to change from Cantonese to Danish to German. Also, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased its tolerance for subtitles. The program cast must also be commended for being varied without being forced.
Few stories are more memorable than others. Also, you may select your favorite character early on in the season. As Emily Beecham, who is the protagonist, wanders through physically impossible occasions and mysteries scene after scene, she serves as the eyes of the viewers on the wrapped vessel. Also, when the writers try to increase their stress, it does begin to annoy them after some time. The environment becomes tight as the music becomes darker, eerier, and darker. The revelations are subtle, and the payoff is gradual.
The majority of the action in the web series is seen on board the SS Kerberos as it sails in the year 1899 from Europe to America. A range of international mysteries and cliches that includes a Geisha, the working class Danes, and a French Snob are a few of the passengers.
English doctors and the German Captain are the cherries on the cake. Every single person is escaping something at their house. The Prometheus, who is the sister ship, has been missing for four months that make distress calls to them in the middle of the journey. There are a few strange things that will start happening, and individuals die when they explore the ship deserted but for one young boy.
Plus Points of 1899 Web Series:
The writing of the web series has been of the highest order. The method through which the plot is logically and neatly written deserves applause. Each session has a solid twist towards the end that may blow the minds. The one that comes in the climax is jaw-dropping. These turns and twists are difficult to understand, and the web series gets quite exciting in several sequences.
Similarly, the web series is not at all confusing, and the series makers made the narrative understandable and easy for the common audience. Also, the eerie and mysterious environment is created using excellent design production and background score. Primarily the web series is involved around Maura Franlink’s character, there are several characters in the web series who have backstories, and they drive the web series forward. There is an emotional angle in the web series that has brought these characters, adding depth to the web series.
From the middle sections, the web series reaches a higher level and the method the mysteries start to unfold brings goosebumps. The director who cast did a good task by roping in a few of the best actors for the web series. Andreas Pietschmann, Fflyn Edwards, Emily Beecham, Maciej Musial, and Aneurin Barnard are doing their roles phenomenally in the web series. But the stand-out performance is from the main protagonist Emily Beecham. The dialogue delivery and expression of the actress as a confused woman is spot-on, and she is the best and biggest asset of the web series 1899.
Some of the scenes, such as passengers who jump off from the deck of the ship or a storm taking over the ship are, showing the craftsmanship of the web series makers and are brilliantly executed in the web series. Also, the characters hail from various countries, and they speak their own language and bring a new feel and authenticity altogether to the web series.
The web series story starts with a passenger ship Kerberos in 1899, who travels from London to New York. The passengers from various nations are going through different life phases, and they think about making big in their dream city, New York.
Also, they come across another Prometheus passenger ship that has been lost in the ocean for four months. Eyk Andreas Pietschmann, who is Kerberos’s captain, plans to give assistance to Prometheus, but the passengers refuse the idea of Eyk.
Despite the rejection, Andreas Pietschmann lends his hand to Prometheus, and then passengers on Kerberos begin to experience weird scenarios. What are these bizarre cases? Why are they taking place? Did the passengers make it to New York City? You must watch the web series to get all your answers 1899.
The web series also has some weaknesses, as it has advantages too. There are some sequences that might bore the audience. The proceedings in the first three episodes shift at the test of the viewer’s patience and snail’s pace. The establishment of character takes time, and the web series makers must have made things interesting from the word go.
A bit more quick-paced screenplay was required to maintain the web series standard. Some scenes are dragged heavily, and the editing team must have shortened these scenes for a better connecting experience with viewers.
Although the show is better in its own way, as it is coming from the makers of the web series Dark, the expectations and comparisons are evident, and the fans of Dark may be disappointed slightly with the plot line of 1899. Also, the adult part is more number, so it limits the web show to appeal from reaching a huge portion of the audience.
1899 is termed among the best web shows technically. The department of the artwork is exquisite that we cannot take our eyes off it even in one sequence. Though the complete series takes place on a ship, the brilliance of the technical team does not bring that thought to our immerses and minds profoundly in the web series.
The tense environment is seen and built by the background score from Ben Frost that will play on your mind even after the end of the web series. Nikolaus Summerer, who is a world-class cinematographer, has perfectly contemplated the spooky and serious mood. The department of costume also has done the best job of replicating the 1890s period. The web series makers have spent a bomb on the series that is visible in every aspect.
The craft that disappoints is editing, and if it had been better, it would have built the best impact. Coming Baran bo Odar who is director of the web series, has once again shown his magic through the web series 1899. There is no confusion and storytelling is done nicely, and credit is equally given to the co-creator Jantje Friese. The vision of the director is good, and he has made good use of the other departments to shift his idea into reality. Also, he might have been careful with the other weaknesses and pacing.
Entirely 1899 web series is an engrossing one most of the time. The excellent design production, stunning performance, and outstanding background score are the driving elements of the web series. Also, the boring and pacing sequences boggle down the complete impact. But the director makes it up with solid turns and twists, and the show ends up with a good watch. Those who like riveting mysteries may give it a try and watch the 1899 web series on Netflix.
